Traineeships

A traineeship is a skills development program that includes a work placement. It can last from 6 weeks
up to 1 year (although most will last for less than 6 months).
Traineeships help 16 to 24 year olds or 25 year olds with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan. it is designed to get you ready for an apprenticeship or job if they don’t have the appropriate skills or experience.

Who can apply?

You can apply for a traineeship if you’re:
ï‚· Eligible to work in England
ï‚· Have little or no work experience but are motivated to work.
ï‚· Aged 16 to 24 or 25 with an EHC plan and qualified up to level 3:


From the training provider you get:
ï‚· Training to prepare you for work, including CV writing and what to expect in the workplace.
ï‚· Support to improve your English, maths and digital skills if you need to.
ï‚· Sector focused vocational learning to help prepare you for your apprenticeship or job and
recognition of your learning.
From the employer you get:
ï‚· A high-quality work placement of at least 70 hours per month.
ï‚· An interview for an apprenticeship or job if available, or an exit interview with written feedback.

A traineeship is a training program and isn’t a job. Employers are not required to pay you for the work placement, but they can support you with expenses such as transport and meals. If you are eligible, you can maintain your entitlement to benefits whilst on a traineeship as necessary. Along with recognition of your learning, there will be support to link you with job opportunities.

ï‚· Health and social care
ï‚· Information Technology
ï‚· Business Admin
ï‚· Teaching Assistant

LEVEL 3 CERTIFICATE IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

About this qualification
The Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care has been designed to enable learners to access
Higher Education or assist with progression into the workplace.
This qualification has been designed and written by a team of subject matter experts, and we have
involved employers and Higher Education Institutions in the review of the content.

What is a nested qualification?
This qualification is nested. Qualifications within a nested suite allow learners to be topped up to a
qualification that is the same level and subject within the Award, Certificate, Extended Diploma
structure. This can be done by self-service through the Portal. Qualification nests and top-up pricing
can be found in our fees list.

UCAS Points
This qualification has the following UCAS Points - D - 36, C - 48, B - 60, A - 72, A* - 84.

What does it cover?
This qualification covers a wide range of key subject areas in health and social care.

Who is it suitable for?
This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 or above who wish to progress on to Higher
Education.
Experience in a real work environment
Learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning.
The minimum required number of placement hours are 75 hours.
Entry requirements of Higher Education Institutions may specify the need for more work experience.

Learners should be at least 16 years old. We do not set any other entry requirements but colleges or
training providers may have their own guidelines.

How is it assessed?
All units in this qualification are internally graded A* - D.

Do you need to be working to take this qualification?
Learners will not be required to attend placement in a Real Work Environment, however 30 hours or
more of work placement is recommended in order to support their learning.

How long does it take to complete?
Learners will usually be able to achieve the Certificate in less than one year.
